A Brief History

La Thai is a modern Thai restaurant in uptown New Orleans from Owner and Executive Chef Diana Chauvin Gallé. Chef Diana is a proud part of the first family of New Orleans Thai. Her mother, Punnee, affectionately known to all as “Mama,” moved to New Orleans from Bangkok to introduce authentic Thai food to the city in the 1970s and the family has been serving locals and visitors alike ever since.

Chef Diana grew up in the kitchen alongside Mama but also gleaned inspiration from all of the culture the city of New Orleans has to offer. She developed her own innovative culinary style, updating traditional family recipes with the bounty of the Crescent City's produce, ingredients & seafood from local waters. La Thai, which opened in 2008, represents that marriage of authentic Thai with Cajun flavors and inspiration.
